Thai food is known for its bold, unique flavors served simply with bright, colorful vegetables and fresh meats in an assortment of delicious presentations. Thai Place in Winter Park believes this and does not disappoint. This is evident from the first glance at the menu. They offer a wide selection, from traditional Asian appetizers to a variety of soups and fresh salads. Entrees include curry dishes, Thai noodle dishes, and even some Chef Signature selections.

For this visit, we were dining late on a Monday evening. The restaurant was not busy, so we were able to be seated right away. The very friendly staff took our order for our drinks and our meals.

Not long after, we were surprised with this delightful little salad, as it is not listed on the menu. There really isn't too much here to mention except the dressing - a perfect combination of peanut, ginger and soy.

We started with an order of Tom Kha Gai soup and Fried Pot Stickers.

Tom Kha Gai Soup

Tom Kha Gai, or Chicken Coconut Soup, is a light coconut broth based soup with chicken, mushrooms, cilantro, lime, and other Thai herbs. The broth was rich and creamy and just sweet enough to balance the heat from the Thai spice. I ordered mine with medium heat, but I would have enjoyed it a bit spicier.

Fried Pot Stickers

The pot stickers were a bit underwhelming. Once they arrived a the table, we realized that we prefer them steamed, which is also an option at Thai Place. While we were a bit disappointed with our choice for the wrapper, the filling did not disappoint. Each one is stuffed with a wonderful vegetable filling and served with soy vinaigrette to dip.

Combination Pad Med Mamuang

For my entree, I chose the Pad Med Mamuang (Cashew Nuts) with a combination of chicken, beef, pork, and shrimp. I ordered this with medium heat as well, but could have gone with hot. The dish is wonderfully flavorful, and the chicken and shrimp were cooked to perfection. The pork and beef were difficult to distinguish from each other, as their flavors didn't stand out.

Each entree is served with a side of rice.

Whether you are a veteran Thai food connoisseur (and order it Extra Thai Hot) or you are new to this cuisine, Thai Place is a great place to enjoy a meal. The atmosphere of the restaurant, the friendly staff, and the wide selection on the menu are a winning combination.
